Tax Rebate Assistance
Date: 9/3/2008
Time: 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm
Location: South Iredell Senior Center (View Map)

Description: Assistance for seniors in filing for the Economic Stimulus Plan Tax Rebate is availabe at South Iredell Senior Center. If you received Social Security benefits last year, even if you are not otherwise required to file a tax return, you may still be entitled to an economic stimulus payment from the federal government. All you have to do to get the stimulus payment is file a 2007 IRS Form 1040 or Form 1040A and report at least $3,000 in qualifying income on the form. Yes, you can include the amount of your SSA benefits to qualify for the stimulus payment. Add the amount of your Social Security benefits to other qualifying income, such as wage earnings or certain benefits paid by the Department of Veterans Affairs, to reach the $3,000 requirement. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) does not count as qualifying income for the stimulus payment. You have until October 2008 to file for the stimulus tax rebate, but the sooner you file the sooner you can get your money. South Iredell Senior Center is offering transportation and assistance to seniors in completing the form. An appointment is required and transportation request must be made at least two days in advance M-F by calling 704-663-5112. In late March the IRS mailed a packet of information to recipients of Social Security benefits who did not file a tax return last year. The packet will contain guidance to help you claim the stimulus payment. Please bring this information with you to your appointment. More information is available at www.IRS.gov.

First Annual WINGS Homeschool Activities Fair
Date: 9/12/2008
Time: 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm
Location: Charlotte Sports Center (View Map)

Description:

On Friday, September 12th, from 2:00-4:30, the WINGS homeschool group will be sponsoring the first annual "WINGS Homeschool Activities Fair" at the Charlotte Sports Center located at 8626 Hankins Rd in Charlotte. Our goal is to connect the homeschooling community in Charlotte with businesses and organizations that may have activities, events, and other opportunities to offer this growing population. We are extending this invitation not only to our group of 185 homeschooling member-families, but also to the entire Charlotte homeschool community! If you homeschool, this is a great opportunity for you to see what area businesses and organizations have to offer. If you are a business owner or leader of an organization that has something to offer homeschoolers, this is a fantastic opportunity for you to showcase those offerings!

What types of businesses and organizations will be participating? Here is a partial list of some of the participants: Discovery Place, the Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County, Historic Latta Plantation, Acting UP! Children's Theater and many others. We hope to have many tables from all kinds of businesses and organizations that not only showcase what they have to offer, but also provide some fun, interactive activities for the children who will be there. Some of the tables, for example, plan to offer raffles, contests, and free samples.

Note: If you are interested in having a table at the fair, please contact us immediately. The charge is only $15 per 6' table. (Note that chairs are not provided, so please bring your own if you wish to sit). We ask that you fill out and return this form (click here) and let us know your intentions by calling our Director of Community Relations, Becca, at 704-948-4131. If you would prefer to simply leave brochures for a brochure table rather than have a whole table to yourself, you may do that instead.

We look forward to lots of participants and an exciting event for all homeschoolers in our area!
