Description: Artist Reception & Third Friday Towles Court Artwalk
October 17th, 2008 6-10 pm
This exhibition kicks off our 2008-2009 season and features two veteran artists of the Katharine Butler Gallery, David and Norine Zapata. David Zapata’s art is a matter of recognizing and recording the fully formed composition. Through his digital photography he captures and reveals the dance between form and light---the interplay of light and shadow in illuminated shapes and textures which suggest the more subtle essence. Norine Zapata’s current series of acrylic on canvas landscape paintings “Calm and Storms” is an exploration of the dual sides of nature and our own natures. We can never fully appreciate or understand the light without the dark or, conversely, the dark without the light. In an ideal world we would experience both in equal balance.

Description: This farcical comedy takes place in 1945 in a home where women have gathered to listen to their favorite soap. The intrigue occurs when the husband, injured at work, comes home and is demanding immediate attention. The frustrated ladies adjourn to the house next door, and the husband, in a swoon of sorts, finds himself in the middle of the action of \"Vera\'s Vicissitudes,\" imagining himself the man who saves the day. The play is cast with the usual (for us) senior citizens playing youthful roles and reaching far outside the normal expectations of what the day will bring, bringing excitement and intrigue into all of our lives. In reality, with accents from New York, Ohio, Germany, etc., the actors attempt roles that are a Checko-Slavenkian immigrant, a Brooklyn lady cab driver, a policewoman, a high profile lawyer, and a lower-middle-class gathering--lots of laughs for everyone. Tickets will be sold at the door for $3 or may be purchased at South Iredell Senior Center. Productions will be held on Wed., Oct. 22 at 2 p.m., Thurs., Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. and Fri., Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. The productions will be held in the auditorium of the Charles Mack Citizen Center. The theater group meets every Wednesday at 2 p.m., at the South Iredell Senior Center and is lead by Jack Rhoades. There is no experience necessary to join the group, just an ambition to have fun and a lot of laughs. Stage, scenery, seamstress and other areas of help are needed.
