Date: 5/1/2009 Time: 6:00 am to 9:00 am Location: Downtown Mooresville (View Map)
Description: The "Taste of Wine on Main Street” an outreach effort by Saint Patrick’s Episcopal Church allows participants to buy tickets for a wine tasting that is scattered through participating businesses in Downtown Mooresville. Eight businesses offer food and wine pairings that have all been donated by various restaurants and wineries. The event last fall raised about $2,000 and provided enough groceries to feed over 20 families in Mooresville for Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Tickets can be purchased at participating businesses, St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church at 201 Fairview Road $25 in advance and $30 at the door.
Saint Patrick’s Episcopal Church has worked for years in conjunction with Barbara Johnson and the Winnie Hooper Center to raise money for local families in need. Saint Patrick’s uses the money to buy groceries that are given to families in Mooresville – groceries are purchased at Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. One of the notable benefits of this program is that the food is provided to the families so they can cook a holiday meal in their own home. In addition, staple grocery items are provided as a means to stock the families’ pantries for beyond the holiday.

Description: Get laughter fit with Kelly Gibson. Gibson worked for over 12 years as an Activity Director with The Little Flower and the Haven in Highland Creek. She is now Marketing Representative for ComForcare home care. She specializes in the emotional, spiritual and recreational well-being for senior adults. She received her Laughter Leader Certification through The World Laughter Tour. The 2-day workshop taught her how to incorporate laughter into everyday living as well as teach others to do the same. She uses laughter fitness with her residents as well as an outreach into the community, educating others on how to use laughter as a stress reliever. Participants will walk away with: 1) The ability to incorporate laughter into your daily routine. This introduction to laughter fitness will show you how to laugh without gossip or humor and demonstrate the basic fundamentals of laughter exercise. 2) Learning a new and easy way to relieve stress. Routine laughter releases endorphins thus causing a feeling of happiness and relaxation. Participants will learn the proper way to laugh during a stressful moment and be able to properly exfoliate the stress surrounding the situation in question. 3) Good-hearted living. Happiness begins each day and learning the various aspects of good-hearted living will provide the participant with a positive outlook and the ability to share with others.
