Description: Rockin' RibFest & Pro Rodeo is a major annual fundraising event for Dove House Children's Advocacy Center, serving sexually abused children throughout Iredell and Alexander counties in North Carolina. Our goal for this fundraiser is to provide a memorable and fun-filled family festival, while raising money for Dove House. Rockin’ RibFest & Pro Rodeo features national award winning ribbers serving up the most unbelievably delicious barbecue ribs, pulled pork, beef, and chicken. For the second year, we are partnering with Mid-Atlantic Professional Rodeo for a 3-day rodeo! In addition, all your favorite festival treats like corn dogs, funnel cakes, fried twinkies, bloomin' onions, roasted corn, hot pretzels, cotton candy and much, much more, will tempt your taste buds.

It helps to improve high blood pressure, balance, muscle tone, circulation, flexibility, aching backs and joints. It can even help you lose weight. Mike Gentile, a certified physical trainer and Reiki master teaches Tai Chi on Mondays at 11 a.m. Cost is $36 per person for a six week session. Tai Chi, it’s good for the body! Call the Senior Center for the dates of the next class session. Newcomers to the class can enter between sessions and the fee will be adjusted.

Description: Learn to Live a Healthier Life, Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP) is a workshop given once a week for six weeks for people with different chronic health problems. Classes are highly participative. Mutual support and success build participant confidence in their own ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives. Subjects covered will include: dealing with frustration, fatigue, and pain, exercising for improving strength, flexibility and endurance, appropriate use of medications, how to communicate effectively with healthcare professionals, nutrition, and how to evaluate treatments. Sponsored by the Centralina Area Agency on Aging, classes are FREE and will be held at the South Iredell Senior Center in the Lowrance Room of the Mooresville Citizens Center starting May 20, 2008. Classes will be every Tuesday for six weeks from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Participants will receive training materials and refreshments will be available. Space is limited so please sign up early. Description: Assistance for seniors in filing for the Economic Stimulus Plan Tax Rebate is availabe at South Iredell Senior Center. If you received Social Security benefits last year, even if you are not otherwise required to file a tax return, you may still be entitled to an economic stimulus payment from the federal government. All you have to do to get the stimulus payment is file a 2007 IRS Form 1040 or Form 1040A and report at least $3,000 in qualifying income on the form. Yes, you can include the amount of your SSA benefits to qualify for the stimulus payment. Add the amount of your Social Security benefits to other qualifying income, such as wage earnings or certain benefits paid by the Department of Veterans Affairs, to reach the $3,000 requirement. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) does not count as qualifying income for the stimulus payment. You have until October 2008 to file for the stimulus tax rebate, but the sooner you file the sooner you can get your money. South Iredell Senior Center is offering transportation and assistance to seniors in completing the form. An appointment is required and transportation request must be made at least two days in advance M-F by calling 704-663-5112. In late March the IRS mailed a packet of information to recipients of Social Security benefits who did not file a tax return last year. The packet will contain guidance to help you claim the stimulus payment. Please bring this information with you to your appointment. More information is available at www.IRS.gov.

RE/MAX at the Lake in Mooresville is hosting its 2nd Annual Run for Miracles 5K Run/Walk. The event will be held June 7, 2008 and starts at 8:00 A.M. at the RE/MAX at the Lake building, 121 Rolling Hill Road, Mooresville. The 3.1 mile course will go through Lakeside Park.
RE/MAX at the Lake organizes a 5K annually with all proceeds benefiting the Children's Miracle Network. RE/MAX International is an official sponsor of the Children's Miracle Network and has donated over $50 million to children's hospitals around the country.

It helps to improve high blood pressure, balance, muscle tone, circulation, flexibility, aching backs and joints. It can even help you lose weight. Mike Gentile, a certified physical trainer and Reiki master teaches Tai Chi on Mondays at 11 a.m. Cost is $36 per person for a six week session. Tai Chi, it’s good for the body! Description: Learn to Live a Healthier Life, Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP) is a workshop given once a week for six weeks for people with different chronic health problems. Classes are highly participative. Mutual support and success build participant confidence in their own ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives. Subjects covered will include: dealing with frustration, fatigue, and pain, exercising for improving strength, flexibility and endurance, appropriate use of medications, how to communicate effectively with healthcare professionals, nutrition, and how to evaluate treatments. Sponsored by the Centralina Area Agency on Aging, classes are FREE and will be held at the South Iredell Senior Center in the Lowrance Room of the Mooresville Citizens Center starting May 20, 2008. Classes will be every Tuesday for six weeks from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Participants will receive training materials and refreshments will be available. Space is limited so please sign up early. Description: Assistance for seniors in filing for the Economic Stimulus Plan Tax Rebate is availabe at South Iredell Senior Center. If you received Social Security benefits last year, even if you are not otherwise required to file a tax return, you may still be entitled to an economic stimulus payment from the federal government. All you have to do to get the stimulus payment is file a 2007 IRS Form 1040 or Form 1040A and report at least $3,000 in qualifying income on the form. Yes, you can include the amount of your SSA benefits to qualify for the stimulus payment. Add the amount of your Social Security benefits to other qualifying income, such as wage earnings or certain benefits paid by the Department of Veterans Affairs, to reach the $3,000 requirement. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) does not count as qualifying income for the stimulus payment. You have until October 2008 to file for the stimulus tax rebate, but the sooner you file the sooner you can get your money. South Iredell Senior Center is offering transportation and assistance to seniors in completing the form. An appointment is required and transportation request must be made at least two days in advance M-F by calling 704-663-5112. In late March the IRS mailed a packet of information to recipients of Social Security benefits who did not file a tax return last year. The packet will contain guidance to help you claim the stimulus payment. Please bring this information with you to your appointment. More information is available at www.IRS.gov.
