Senior Legal Services and Counseling is offered the 1st Wednesday of every month. Nursing Home & Assistive Living counseling the 3rd Tuesday of every month. (SHIIP) Senior Health Insurance Counseling and assistance the 3rd Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. and the 2nd Friday at 1:30. You must call 704-662-3337 to schedule an appointment. For more information contact: Tina Czarnecki sisc@alltel.net 704-662-3337 Event Posted by: SiSeniorCenter Duplicate this event Return to event calendar SISC Support Groups Date: 1/27/2009 Time: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Location: South Iredell Senior Center (View Map) Description: *Stroke Survivor Support Group meets the 1st Thursday of each month from 1-3 p.m. The group reaches out to individuals in the community and supports them in coming to terms with how their life has changed and issues they face in every day life. *Diabetes Support Group meets on the 4th Monday at 12 noon. *Dementia Support Group meets on the 2nd Wednesday at 2 p.m. and is designed for caregivers of individuals with dementia. Daycare provided upon prior request and arrangement. These support groups are open to the community. This group is supported by the Western Carolina Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. *Prostate Cancer Support Group meets the last Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m., everyone -male, female, friends, family, etc. are welcome to attend. Refreshment provided by Summit Plc. and pizza provided quarterly by Vocelli Pizza. *Parkinson Support Group meets the 3rd Tuesday at 2 p.m. lead by Lake Norman Inspirations. Classes are approximately one hour long and open to all seniors age 60 or better with priority given to Iredell County residents. Information on guidelines and fees are available upon request. It is recommended that new participants observe their class of choice before registering. Private lessons are available for the disabled, visually or physically impaired. Please call the Senior Center for a class schedule and fees. The only thing we can do to slow this normal aging process is to exercise. Join in the fitness! Build muscle, strengthen bones, and reach out for good health every Tuesday and Thursday at 10 a.m. in a Sit & Fit Chair Exercise workout at the South Iredell Senior Center. The class is free and open for any senior adult interested. Participants should wear something comfortable that gives with their movement and bring hand weights, or water bottles to gain more from the workout. The basic idea is to encourage everyone in the county to read and discuss the same book. There will be a month-long series of events (discussion groups like SISC’s Book Club, read a-thons, theatrical presentations, art and writing contests and displays, trivia contest, panel discussions, movie screenings…) that are based on the themes presented in the book. The book that was chosen for Iredell County’s first Big Read is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Iredell County’s Big Read activities will take place during February of 2009. Kickoff events are planned for February 1. A calendar of events is available. To learn more about the Big Read in Iredell County, contact Peggy Carter at 704-878-3098.
