Community Nativity Festival

Description: The community is invited to usher in the holiday season as they view 300 nativity scenes from around the world, revel in the sounds of holiday music performed by local choirs, and dress in nativity costume to enact the Holy Night. Family activities include family photo, nativity scavenger hunt, and crafts to take home. December 1 & 2 6-9 pm and December 3 10am-9pm. Help for Seniors Filing Their Taxes

Description: The Center is now accepting registration for an evidence-based Arthritis Foundation Tai Chi Program. The class is designed to improve balance, increase range of motion, circulation and leg strength, as well as decrease arthritic pain. The instructor, Mike Gentile, AF Tai Chi Certified, states that every person, even those free of arthritis can benefit by taking the class. The class will start on Mon., Jan. 9 and run for six weeks, meeting from 12:15-1:15 p.m. Space is limited. Because the Center has received a grant to offer the class, there is no actual set fee to participate in this one class. However, the recommended cost sharing amount for the class is $36 for those who wish to help the Center provide additional evidence-based classes through their monetary support. The facility and instructor can accommodate individuals interested in taking the class who have a physical disability or impairment. Winter Market

Removing the Mask of Lupus Workshop Series: Understanding Lupus

Description: During our 2012 workshop series, Removing The Mask of Lupus, we will focus on connecting with the community to address health disparities among African Americans in our area who are disproportionately affected by lupus. In an effort to raise awareness among the African American community, the workshop series will include general lupus information and topics that are most relevant to the African American community. The series will feature quarterly workshops entitled: Understanding Lupus, Getting The Help You Need, Lupus & the Skin, and Lupus & the Kidneys. While this series focuses on the African American community, it is open to anyone with an interest in the presented topics. This educational program is designed for newly diagnosed patients, family, caretakers, and anyone wanting to learn more about lupus. Description: A massage positively affects blood pressure, pulse, and skin temperature. It increases lymph flow rate by 7 - 9 times. Massages are now available at South Iredell Senior Center. The next sessions will be held on February 13th, 14th and 15th. Appointments are required. Massage therapy is particularly valuable for the problems associated with growing older. The benefits of massage encompass conditions that may arise with age, such as: muscular stiffness, arthritis, tendonitis, bursitis, and respiratory problems such as asthma and emphysema. Massage encourages circulation, decreases muscular stiffness, and helps to decrease inflammation that may rest in the joints. Careful massage can help provide the elderly with symptomatic relief and enable seniors to extend the vitality in their lives. NEW SENIOR RATE is $20 for 30 minutes; $40 for 60 minutes. Massage Therapy

Description: A massage positively affects blood pressure, pulse, and skin temperature. It increases lymph flow rate by 7 - 9 times. Massages are now available at South Iredell Senior Center. The next sessions will be held on February 13th, 14th and 15th. Appointments are required. Massage therapy is particularly valuable for the problems associated with growing older. The benefits of massage encompass conditions that may arise with age, such as: muscular stiffness, arthritis, tendonitis, bursitis, and respiratory problems such as asthma and emphysema. Massage encourages circulation, decreases muscular stiffness, and helps to decrease inflammation that may rest in the joints. Careful massage can help provide the elderly with symptomatic relief and enable seniors to extend the vitality in their lives. NEW SENIOR RATE is $20 for 30 minutes; $40 for 60 minutes. Help for Seniors Filing Their Taxes

Description: AARP Tax Aide will be at the South Iredell Senior Center on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. February 2 through April 12 to help semust bring all tax papers and your 2010 tax return. An interpreter is available upon prior request for Spanish speaking individuals, and a wheelchair is located at the Senior Center to help assist individuals who are physically impaired. This FREE service is available to all seniors and low income individuals. The service will also be available on a first come, first serve basis at the Mooresville Recreation Department at the War Memorial Building every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Appointments are not taken at this site so individuals will be assisted in the order of their arrival. Telecommunications access for all through relay services and assistive technology is available. Consultation and training is available for agencies, organizations and businesses such as law enforcement, hospitals, 911 call centers, churches and hotels – so that people with hearing loss may experience full access. Identifying Depression in the Elderly

Winter Market
