Date: 4/21/2009 Time: 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm Location: Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream, Main Street, Davidson, NC (View Map)
Description: An annual rite of spring—Ben & Jerry’s style—is coming up. All Ben & Jerry’s scoopshops in the Charlotte area and around the world will celebrate Free Cone Day on Tuesday, April 21, from noon ‘til 8 pm.
This annual tradition started almost 30 years ago when the company’s founders, Ben and Jerry, thanked their customers for helping them survive their first year in business—including the long Vermont winter. The tradition is still observed as the ultimate Customer Appreciation Day: guests can get a free small cone of their favorite flavor absolutely free!
New flavors in the line-up this season include Chocolate Macadamia and Oatmeal Cookie Chunk. Of course, the classics are always in demand, too, such as New York Super Fudge Chunk, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Cherry Garcia.
All flavors are made from hormone-free Vermont dairy and contain no preservatives or artificial ingredients. In addition, the vanilla, chocolate and coffee ice creams are all made with Fair Trade certified flavorings.
The staffs of the Davidson (202 S. Main St) have selected the North Mecklenburg Animal Rescue program to receive their “tips”. North Mecklenburg Animal Rescue is a group of volunteer dog lovers whose mission is to rescue, provide sanctuary, and ultimately to re-home abandoned, stray and neglected dogs. Whenever possible they also assist dogs who, because of extenuating circumstances, are unable to remain in their homes with their owners. They provide all medical attention that may be required to insure the animal is in good health before adoption. They are all spayed or neutered and brought up-to-date on shots and heartworm tested before being placed in their new homes. When time permits, the dogs are also house trained and taught basic obedience.
Local Ben & Jerry’s scoop shop manager, Karen Toney, a veteran of 16 free cone days stated, “I Love this day! Everyone thinks it’s a headache. But I love making people happy with free ice cream. I am especially gratified by watching my young staff make the effort to raise money for worthy causes in our community. That’s what Ben & Jerry’s is all about.”
North Mecklenburg Animal Rescue will be on hand with dogs and adoption information. Patrons are encouraged to bring any of the following items to free cone day for donation.
